| | One of the longest running record production collaborations at Capitol
Records was that of
producer Dick Jones and Jackie Gleason. Jones was brought in by Capital
Records to produce Gleason's first album, Music for
Lovers Only. That collaboration lasted from 1952 to 1969.
That had a profound influence on the consistent quality of the albums Gleason
released.
In the liner notes
of The Best of Jackie Gleason (Catalog No. SWAO 90601), Dick Jones wrote:
Choosing the best of Jackie is like selecting the
finest nuggets from a chest that is brimful of pure gold. Nevertheless,
here's an outstanding collection of Gleason-created enchantment--wonderful songs
in Jackie's own rich and brilliantly varied orchestral concepts."
Considering the extent of Jones' contributions to Gleason's many albums, it
is curious that little information can be found about Jones' career. Certainly,
he helped to produce many other albums for Capitol.
